Know what is installed
Build an overview of critical controllers and operator panels, the software they use and their support status. Record which projects and backups are available, where they are stored and who can access them.
Make the backup usable
A file on a laptop is only part of the picture. Check which software versions, licences and access details are needed, who is responsible for keeping copies up to date, and how they are stored securely in-house.
Plan the recovery
Agree how recovery will be checked and what is needed if a controller fails or a network connection is lost. Check critical spare parts, quoted lead times and suitable on-site stock. Any recovery test on production equipment needs an agreed plan and the right operating conditions.
Understand external access
Review how machines connect to the network, who has external access and which connections the equipment depends on. Make responsibilities clear and identify the questions that need input from your IT team.
Leave with clear next steps
The result should be a prioritised action plan: what needs attention first, who takes responsibility and what happens next. The scope depends on your equipment and the information available.
